Machalilla nationalpark is located just about half an hours drive from the Yoga Eco Lodge. It's well worth the visit, with all the natural wonders it has to offer. The park is about 55 000 ha, divided into three sections consisting of Isla de la Plata and the north and south sector. The different composition of vegetation and species across the area invites you visit the wildlife of more than 500 different animal species, where 143 of them are fish species, over 200 of them a variation of birds and during certain months Machalilla also has a very special crowd of migratory species.
Machalilla National Park
In the months of June through October the park is visited by humpback whales, giving you the opportunity to see them perform in their natural setting.
Isla de la plata is known as the "poor man's Galapagos", due to it's similarity to the Galapagos Islands, but without the big crowd of tourists around.
The park promotes development of sustainable ecological tourism and the conservation of the region. They are happy to invite you to the area, and you can even choose to take part in and learn more about Machalilla National Park through participation in one of their volunteer programs.
